Rock is a metaphor for life in the sense that life is a
Road of continuing knowledge, and make no mistake about it, if we are alive then we are on this Road. As we learn and grow in a series of life’s experiences, we are in a continuing school of knowledge whether we like it or not. When one thinks of a rock several thoughts may come to mind. A rock is solid and when someone refers to their “rock” they’re often referring to their life’s goals, passions and direction. In another sense, a solid rock could be compared to a foundation – such as the foundation of a sturdy building. Most of us will build our life on a foundation of sorts. Some lay a foundation in religion or spiritual matters, while others base their foundation in science and physical matters. Those who don’t find a rock or foundation may be blown about like a leaf in the wind, following what ever direction the wind happens to be blowing at the time. |
The more we experience the school of life, the better we should be at discovering and grasping truth - which can then be used in building a foundation. Truth is an interesting concept that means different things to different people. In the dictionary, truth is defined as facts. If this is the case, to gain knowledge we must learn facts. If only things were as easy as finding facts. There seems to be two types of truth; absolute truth and perceived truth.
Most of us hold on to perceived truth through faith in something. Sometimes we discover that something we thought was true is not. If we want to progress on the road to knowledge, it is important to admit mistakes and move on to further learning. As we move ahead in life, attempting to improve ourselves in goodness, we must seek out and apply true principles in our lives. While doing this, it is important to remember that where there is goodness there is always a negative element to oppose it. Truth referred to here is knowledge that perpetuates quality and harmony. As we learn and progress, it is imperative that we stand on a foundation of truth.
